Dr. Elena Demidova is a research group leader at the L3S Research Center in Hannover, Germany. In the past, Elena worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Web and Internet Science (WAIS) Group, Electronics and Computer Science (ECS), University of Southampton, UK, as well as a researcher and a project manager at the L3S Research Center. Elena received her Ph.D. degree from the Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, in 2013 and her M.Sc. degree in Information Engineering from the Universität Osnabrück (Germany) in a joint program with the University of Twente (The Netherlands) in 2006. Elena has been involved in the leading roles in several large-scale EU-funded and national projects including most recently the roles of the project coordinator of Cleopatra (a Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN Excellence Network, H2020), Data4UrbanMobility and Simple-ML projects (BMBF), project manager of the WDAqua ITN (EU), PostDoc researcher in ALEXANDRIA (ERC, EU), work package leader in FP7 IP ARCOMEM (EU) and work group leader in KEYSTONE COST Action (COST, EU). Her work has been published throughout major conferences and journals, including ACM TWEB, Springer IJDL, Semantic Web Journal, The Web Conference (former WWW), ACM SIGIR, ACM CIKM, and IEEE TKDE, and she has been a reviewer and committee member for numerous scientific events and publications, most recently including the roles of PC member for TheWebConf (WWW), ISWC, ESWC and ACM CIKM conferences as well as guest editor for ACM JDIQ and IJSWIS. Elena’s main research interests are in data analytics, mobility, multilingual data, Open Data, the Web and Semantic Web.
